Who does my transit system serve, and how well are these people served? How easily can people access important destinations by transit? This workshop will help you answer these questions using ArcGIS and your GTFS public transit data.
We will cover:
- How to display stops and routes in the map
- How to determine the coverage of your transit system and enrich the coverage area with demographic information
- How to calculate the frequency of transit service available to different areas of town and points of interest
- How to create a GTFS-enabled network dataset for use with ArcGIS Network Analyst
- How to use Network Analyst and your network dataset to calculate measures of transit accessibility
- [Optional] How to generate a shapes.txt file for your GTFS dataset

Pre-requisites:
- Experience using ArcMap
- Basic knowledge of the Network Analyst extension is a plus, but not required
Requirements:
Laptop and software: Attendees must bring their own laptops to use for this workshop.
- Permissions to install something on your laptop
- ArcMap 10.1 or higher (10.3 or higher is recommended)
- Network Analyst license
- A Desktop Standard (ArcEditor) or Desktop Advanced (ArcInfo) level license is recommended. You will be able to do most of the workflows with a Desktop Basic (ArcView) license, but not all.
- Optional: ArcGIS Pro
- Optional: An ArcGIS Online account (you can create a temporary free trial account if you don’t have one)
Data:
- A GTFS dataset for the transit agency (or agencies) of your choice (or you can download one the day of)
- A feature class of streets covering the area served by your GTFS dataset
- Optional, but very helpful: A network dataset covering the area served by your GTFS dataset
Class Size: A limited number of individuals may register for this workshop.
Cost: There is an additional fee of $125 to attend this course.
